One of the fastest growing industries in the world, the travel and tourism sector is a major source of
revenue generation and employment creation, which is why countries across the world accord very high
importance to tourism promotion. In India as well in Rajasthan too, tourism is being seen as one of
the prime engines of growth.
After a couple of difficult years, tourism is on the upswing worldwide. Rajasthan is no exception.
The year 2003 witnessed a record number of tourists coming to India and they are increasing by leaps
and bounds every year. The need of the hour is to maintain the momentum. Implementation of the pending
aviation reforms, centre-state co-ordination in framing policies and rationalising tax-structure,
public-private partnership in marketing and building tourism infrastructure etc. will go a long way
in sustaining the tourism boom. In addition to that, there is a strong need for exploring new avenues
like night tourism, summer tourism etc.
The importance of Tourism in Rajasthan is immense. It is a driver of growth and employment generation.
There has been a perception that Jaipur is too hot during the summer and monsoon -- therefore, not a
destination during this period. The reality is that the mornings and evenings are extremely pleasant
as compared to source markets like Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
Also, fine hotels are available at reasonable rates during this period. It can, therefore, be positioned
as a great get-away for people of Delhi or Gurgaon, Noida and near by area who can just drive down. People
of Mumbai / Ahmedabad can fly down taking advantage of the LCC fares.
Keeping this in mind Confederation of Indian Industry proposes to promote the long weekend and showcase
it as an option for short breaks for promoting off season tourism in the state, specifically in Jaipur.
